FAQ

What is permanent cosmetic makeup?

Permanent cosmetic makeup is cosmetic tattooing. The specialized techniques used for permanent cosmetics are often referred to as, "micro pigment implantation." The cosmetic implantation technique deposits colored pigment into the upper reticular layer of the dermis. Whatever procedures are desired, permanent cosmetic makeup can create a polished, subtle or natural look. Many clients elect to have a natural look because it is permanent. After surgical procedures, clients can use permanent color techniques to camouflage scars, or to create the illusion of areolas and nipples after breast cancer and reconstructive surgery. Men may want permanent color to give the look of fuller eyebrows, to mask the effects of slight hair loss or to camouflage scars.

Is it safe?

If proper sterilization and sanitation guidelines are met, permanent cosmetics should be completely safe.

How long does each procedure take?

The initial procedure will generally take approximately 2 to 3 hours. Touch-up procedures do not require as much time.

How are permanent cosmetic procedures done?

Procedures are performed using a rotary machine. The process includes an initial consultation, application of pigment, and at least one or more follow-up visits for adjusting the shape, color, or density of the pigment.

Is it painful?

Most people experience some discomfort. This may vary according to each individuals pain threshold and the skills of the technician performing the service. HOWEVER, there are various topical anesthetic ointments, and anesthetic locals available to alleviate this discomfort.

Are there any side effects or possibility for medical problems?

Generally there is some swelling of the treated area and during the procedure there may be some bleeding and bruising; there is usually some tenderness for a few days. The application is just deep enough to penetrate the minute capillaries in the dermal layer of the skin. The possibility of any problems or reactions from these procedures is almost non-existent with todays health standards. Post-procedural instructions, if followed carefully, will completely eliminate any risk.

Who benefits form permanent cosmetic makeup?

EVERYONE from the young to the elderly, who desire a soft, natural enhancement to their appearance. It is especially beneficial to people who can't wear other cosmetics because of allergies or skin sensitivities. Active people who want to look their best for activities such as swimming, hiking, tennis, aerobics, and those who don't want to worry about, "sweating off" or reapplying cosmetics benefit as well. It also benefits the vision impaired who have difficulty applying cosmetics and others with motor impairments such as Arthritis, Parkinson's Disease, Multiple Sclerosis, and stroke survivors. Those with unsteady hands who cannot apply their own makeup and busy people who don't have time to spend on their makeup.

What type of permanent cosmetic procedures can be done?

EYEBROWS, EYELINER (upper and lower), LIPLINER, FULL LIP, LASH ENHANCEMENT, SCAR CAMOUFLAGE, AREOLA REPIGMENTATION, AND BEAUTY MARKS.

What should I expect?

REMEMBER: Although these procedures are considered permanent, there is flexibility in changing color and shape to some extent, depending on the expertise of your technician. Color will appear darker immediately following the procedure but will soften and lighten during the healing process. The healing time is different for each individual and procedure. Choose a technician carefully by considering training, experience, and portfolio. It is important to remember that the placement of the procedure is as important as the right color. The desired look is obtained during the course of the consultation and initial procedure. Interaction between the client and the technician should be of utmost importance.

What's a touch-up and when do I need one?

A touch-up is a color re-enhancement. The implanted color is not always perfect after the first procedure. A follow up visit after the initial procedure should always be scheduled. It is recommended that you do not traumatize the skin again for a minimum of four to six weeks.
